The MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit (MRC SPHSU) aims to promote human health via the study of social and environmental influences on health. Since 1997, the Unit’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Programme has been involved in sexual behaviour research and the evaluation of Mema kwa Vijana in Tanzania. From 2001, this involvement continued through a partnership in a Department for International Development Knowledge Programme, now a Research Programme Consortium, on HIV and sexual health in developing countries.
