MEMA kwa Vijana Phase 1 Health and Lifestyles Research Programme (HALIRA) (1999 – 2002)
The HALIRA research programme investigated young people’s sexual health and lifestyles in rural Mwanza and conducted process evaluations of different MEMA Kwa Vijana 1 interventions. It primarily used qualitative methods.
- To investigate the context of the MkV1 intervention programme, in particular the sexual health and lifestyles of rural adolescents.
- To investigate the processes by which MkV1 intervention programme was delivered.
- To qualitatively assess MkV1 intervention programme impact on knowledge, attitudes and behaviour.
- To develop and evaluate research methodologies for the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of adolescent sexual behaviour.
